Society for Medical and Biological Engineering
The Society for Medical and Biological Engineering was formed in Australia in March 1966 with the aim of providing a common meeting ground for all those interested in the application and use of engineering techniques in medicine and biology. The Society membership includes engineers, company representatives, medical specialists, scientists, technicians, radiographers, nurses, research workers, students and generally, people who have an interest in the field and its contribution to the advancement of health care.
Australasian College of Physical Scientists and Engineers in Medicine
ACPSEM or the Australasian College of Physical Scientists and Engineers in Medicine, is a not for profit association of members who have careers in medical physics (either in radiation oncology, radiology and/or nuclear medicine) or in biomedical engineering. Many work in hospitals but there are some who are university based. Some have research as their main focus whereas others are very much at the forefront of patient diagnosis and treatment. As with any medical profession they often work in teams, alongside medical doctors, radiation therapists and technicians.
